I think the portrait is looking good so far. You can get a little bit more specific with the material of the hat, his shirt beneath his coat, and the hair for his beard. Maybe you can treat his hair differently from his coat because right now they look the same? But I'm sure you can do all of that for the character paint.
In some ways I kinda like 4 better than 3 because ax portion is further away from the trigger. However the barrel of the gun for 4 looks like it would break under a lot of force if he were to swing it around. Make it thicker maybe? And I like 3 for the knife. Brass knuckles are cool. Maybe you can make the point on the other side longer, so its like a 2 sided dagger :P
I feel like the weapons are feeling too modern. You dont have to be so close to reference. check out the weapon from bioshock http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/12/21/see-bioshock-infinite-39-s-sky-hook-contraption-in-action.aspx it has aspects of the reference but it is a fun combination
